A/D Conversions Requirements:

NLS will provide metadata (online .opf)

Digitize/Convert according to NLS Spec #1202

Create from each .WAV according to NLS Spec #1203

Compress Audio and create 1 CD-R w/ encoded audio and administration file for complete DTB compliant with ANSI/NISO Z39.86-2002

C.3.1.4 Conversion Requirements:

• Max. speed = 4x 3-3/4ips playback speed (15ips)
• Recording backwards and reversing tolerable

Exceptions C.3.1.6 NLS Spec #1202:

Include files necessary in accordance with NLS Spec#1203

Deliverables:

(1) Set of CD-Rs containing digitized .WAV files (2) Single CD-R containing complete DTB

-1/4 track reel-to-reel may be returned and marked as such

-Return tapes if evidence of deterioration before/during play (label box + sheet with ANotConverted.@)

C.3.1.5 Contract Summary Report (DTB_tracking6.xls):

include spreadsheet contract summary report (book# order, book #, title, status (complete or not converted), if not converted the reason why)

C.3.2 Creation of DTB:

• DTB Version (single CD-R)
• AType 2” DTBs (audioNCX) in Section 13 of ANSI/NISO Z39.86-2002
• compressed audio, NCX, SMIL, OPF
• no DISTINFO Files required since all material will fit on single CD-R

C.3.1.6 Exceptions for NLS Spec#1202

• Add A+ DTB@ after the range and total disk info described in S5.2.2.c.
• Rest of the spec applies to labeling

C.3.2.1 Exceptions from NLS Spec#1203:

• S 5.2 doesn’t apply, DTB shall be included in same storage box as CD-R containing .WAV files.

C.3.2.3 SMIL File:

• At min., one <par> shall be included for each structural element in the book for which an NCX entry has been created.

C.3.2.4 Audio Announcement Exclusions using SMIL:

• Opening/closing ann. Create for cassette version are exluded from DTB.
• Do not edit sound tracks in any way
• Structure SMIL file so that excluded segments listed below are skipped during DTB playback

Exlude:

o “This book contains up to four sides per cassette”

o “side 1”

o Book # (ie. ARC45667)

Include:

• Title and Author (after book#, before “This book contains_pages_on_sides”)
• Copyright date and holder
• “Read by_”

Exlude:

• “This book contains__pages on__side”
• “If you would like to skip over...”
• “This recording is tone-indexed…”

C.3.2.5.2 Beginnings of All Sides Other Than Side 1:

Exclude all ann. before the continuation of the book itself (ie. “Side__, title, author, continuing..”)

C.3.2.5.3 Ends of Sides Other Than Last Side:

Exclud: “End of side__ and everthing that follows on that side”

C.3.2.5.4 End of last side:

Exclude ann. regarding defective cassettes (“If you experienced any difficulty with this cassette”)

3.2.5 Navigation Control File (NCX):

Text/audio elements valued for docTitle and docAuthor

For all books, navPoints created for:

• Beginning of DTB (use book=s title and author as value for navLabel and with <content> pointing to the beginning of the title)
• Beginning of the table of contents
• Beginning of the main content of the book (generally start of chapter)
• navPoints shall be created for each tone-indexed item
• if tone index, but contains table of contents, use navPoint for each item in TOC
• if not tone-indexed and contains no TOC, no navPoints beyond above 3 specified

C.3.2.6.1 File of Heading Clips (required):

• This file contains audio clips of docTitle, docAuthor (S3.2.4.2#1203), and each NCX heading, are named RC#hdgs.mp3.

C.3.2.6.2 DTB Announcement File supplied by NLS:

• Included at start of each DTB (informs reader DTB originally a cassette)
• Insert file following à “Read by__ or Narrated by__” in the Opening Announcement File

C.3.2.6.3 Opening Announcement File (optional):

• May create separate .WAV file containing copies of selected sound clips of the books opening ann., including the DTB Announcement file supplied by NLS (above).

C.3.2.6.4 Placement of DTB-Specific Audio Files:

• CD-R containing the review files of Side 1 (S3.2.4.2#1203)
• Opening Announcements for DTB
• Subsequent CD-R contains one review file
• All files in Root

C.3.2.8 Compete DB:

• Conform to ANSI/NISO Z39.86 and NLS#1203
• All DTDs and referenced DTB files
• OPF, NCX, SMIL, Compressed Audio (MP3 Faunhofer mp3enc V.3.0 or newer,
• Bitrate = 48kbps
• Quality = 9
• ESR = 22.050Hz
