DTB Production Steps

 

Telex Software Use:

 

1)       Telex Settings for 8 min sample pass:

·         Gain = -12dB

·         Reverse checkbox for Studer CH 2, 4, 6, 8

·         F5 = monitor audio level on/off

·         Record Speed = 59ips

·         File à Properties à Playback Speed = 4x

·         tail/head gap = 100ms

·         Sample Rate = 22.05kHz

·         Playback/Rec. Time = 8 min.

·         Record on Telex, then Play on Studer

2)       Studer Settings with Telex:

·         15ips, Stereo

·         Play post leader tape to playback head (minimize blank audio)

·         2-Loc enabled = for return to zero function

3)       Problematic Tapes, marked with red sticker and put asside = Drop Outs, Extensive Noise

 

1)       Telex Settings for full 88min pass:

·         same settings as test pass, except Prop. à Time = 92 min

2)       Name Each File (Open) with RCN# (ie. 51758s01.wav)

3)       Reset Bars

4)       Change Gain from 12-dB to correct setting based on gain notes

·         (If gain change marked -3dB on sticky, then set Gain to [-12 + -3] = -15dB)

5)       Rec. on Telex, then Play on Studer

 

 

Wavelab – Calibration/Audio Levels:

 

1)       Load all digitized telex .WAV files at once

2)       Calibration:

·         Use sticky pad for notes

a.       1st sticky: RCN, # of .WAVs generated, Time for Pass

b.       2nd sticky: Gain Changes – Follow spec for:

o        Noise Floor

o        RMS Audio Level: (>12dBFS or <16dBFS)

- (if Level reads -7dB, lower by -4dB – mark on sticky)

o        ?

 

Wavelab – Background Noise Level:

 

1)       View à Spec à Window Effects “Master Section” à Click #1 à Direct X à Waves PAZ Meters 32 Bit

·         Weight = A

·         RMS = Detect

2)       Highlight small section with Room Tone to examine Noise Floor à Loop Playback

 

Wavelab – Index Tones:

 

1)       Use Level Meter on 1st .WAV only

2)       Should be found (4 – 5 min) before Chapter 1

3)       +-2dBFS @ -26dB

 

Wavelab WAV Editing (1st file only):

1)       100 ms @ head/tail = Spec C.3.2.5.1

2)       Save

3)       Delete exclusions

4)       Words “read by…”, insert “Gen. Ann. File

5)       Increase Gain of “Gen. Ann. File”

6)       Delete exclusion “this book contains…”

(Reference spec for exclusions)

7)       Highlight audio content before Chapter 1

8)       Choose “Save as selected..”, name = RCtann.wav

 

N2NISO Editing: (encodes MP3s, and essential files)

1)       1st replace .opf to .topf

2)       Open à .topf à start à enter RC# (delete letters before)

3)       Manifext.text document – paste in .topf file

4)       When validation complete

5)       EDIT

6)       Select title (highlight), choose set selection, SAVE

7)       Go to “us-nls-dbRC” folder, delete .log

8)       Name RC#ann.mp3 (2nd file starts w/RC#)

9)       .SMIL files should be named consequetively (1,2,3,4, etc.)

10)   Open .opf and EDIT to correspond with .SMIL file numbering

11)   Rename .SMIL file names to match .opf and .ncx file numbering

12)   Delete <layout> section of .SMIL file code

13)   Change .SMIL file to identify mp3s ann (ie. 42397ann.mp3)

14)   Replace RC-0002.mp3 with RCann.mp3

15)   RC-0001.mp3 always remains the same

16)   In .ncx, delete code, <smilCustomTest>

17)   Replace <txt> Mojo <txt>, with nothing

18)   Use past-into.txt to paste code into .topf before </manifest>

19)   Delete “48mp3” text from folder name

20)   Copy “us-nls-dbRC” to C:\

21)   Open ZedVal folder on desktop à

22)   Open ZedVal.bat, paste book # to c:\us-nls-RC à SAVE

23)   bat file, à view report.xml

24)   Double click .ZedVal.

 

WIPS SMIL Creation:

1)       New à AddDaisy 2.0 à

2)       Book title, browse to folder

3)       Import all waves (xxxxann.wav, xxxxs01.wav, etc.)

4)       Calibrate (look for silences), Start Calibration

5)       Settings

6)       Hit Record (creates .SMIL files)

7)       Open SMIL file #1

8)       Copy last npt entry and past to 1st entry for each .SMIL file

9)       Delete all other audio src? Entries but 1st two

 

WIPS NCC Event Creation:

1)       open à ncc.html à EDIT

2)       Tone freq = 55Hz, Sensitivity Level = 300 (lower = more sensitive)

3)       EDIT

4)       Split current ncc item, yellow folder = ncc event = nav point

5)       Name working start nav pts. MOJO

6)       Tools à Identify Chapters

7)       Splace marker after author, choose “set 1st praseà “join all-defined chapters” EXIT

8)       Now check .SMIL files à

 

WIPS Announcement File Creation:

1)       Open RC#s01.wav

2)       RC, title, author

3)       Delete exlusions

4)       General ann. Before CH1

5)       100ms front/end

6)       Save as… xxxxtann.wav

 

WIPS Detecting Breaks:

1)       Backup SMIL files before editing

2)       Automatic section break” = determines # of NCC events

3)       Exlude words “Side 2, 3, 4” delete ann.

4)       S.0X is rarely designated/named a MOJO

5)       Last named MOJO starts “end of title”

6)       if you find any cassettes” = delete

7)       further reproduction” = keep as last dialog

8)       Tools à identify chapters à “set first phrase” (material before yellow arrows)

§         Author = phrase pt.

§         Copyright = phrase pt.

§         Title = phrase pt.

§         end of, title, author” = last phrase pt.

9)       Unselect” non-marked MOJOs

10)   Join all non-identified.. à EXIT

 

SMIL File Editing:

1)       copy last “clip-end ntpt” time to 2nd line with “clip-end ntpt

(usually done if 1st line <15s, but if >15s paste in 1st line)

*Whenever you have another .WAV file in the same SMIL file, it’s not the next phrase.

 

.XML Notes:

Index tones come before each chapter

Gaps >1s in .WAV
